On April 6, 2022, the UK Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) started a review of the Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) on steel imports from Russia and Belarus to assess whether the quotas assigned to Russia and Belarus should be re-allocated to avoid potential steel shortages in the UK.
The UK has set quotas for importing countries. If their quota is used up, they have to pay a higher tariff rate. Exporters from Russia and Belarus may not be able to fulfill their quotas due to the UK’s sanctions on some imports from them, including steel; therefore, the UK is considering adjusting quotas to ensure a stable steel supply.
