According to Japan Aluminium Association (JAA), in the first quarter of 2022, Japan’s aluminum demand recovered slowly due to the long-term epidemic impact. The country’s aluminum domestic and export demand was down by 1.2% year on year to 985,900 tons during the period.

The transportation industry is the largest consumer of Japan’s aluminum, accounting for nearly 45% of the total.

In the first quarter of this year, the delayed procurement of components led to a decline in automobile production, so the aluminum demand in the transportation sector dropped by 8.1% year on year to 383,300 tons.

However, the aluminum demand in the construction industry, the second-largest consumer, increased by 4.4% year on year to 111,300 tons.
